KILLZONE FIELD GUIDE / IOS CONTROLLER GUIDE
Fly FPV on iPhone or iPad with a controller.
YOUR NEXT FLIGHT STARTS HERE
The Killzone FPV iOS app supports a compatible Apple Game Controller or a supported Wi-Fi-capable ExpressLRS transmitter. Choose Direct Radio Wi-Fi for quick local practice, or Home Wi-Fi so your radio connection and online multiplayer can work together. This guide explains both paths and the four-control check before you fly.
Get Killzone FPV on the App StoreThe iOS app is free to download. A supported controller is required to fly; Killzone Pro is an optional upgrade.
First, choose your controller
Install the iOS app and select Apple Game Controller or ExpressLRS Wi-Fi Joystick on its controller setup screen. A compatible Apple Game Controller connects through your iPhone or iPad's controller settings; return to the app and move a stick to check that it responds.
For an ExpressLRS radio, use a supported Wi-Fi-capable transmitter with the official Wi-Fi Joystick feature introduced in ELRS 3.4.0. The RadioMaster Pocket running ELRS 4.1 has been physically tested, but version alone does not guarantee that every transmitter target supports the feature. Safari may not expose an FPV radio, so use the native iOS app for this path.
Direct Radio Wi-Fi: quickest local setup
This connects your phone directly to the radio. The radio network may have no internet, so choose this for local practice rather than assuming online multiplayer will work. Available offline activities depend on your app access and purchases.
- On the radio, open the ExpressLRS Lua script. Under WiFi Connectivity, choose Enable WiFi.
- In iPhone or iPad Wi-Fi settings, join ExpressLRS TX. The default password is usually expresslrs. If prompted, choose Join Without Internet and stay on that network.
- Return to Killzone FPV, select Direct Radio Wi-Fi, leave the address at 10.0.0.1, and tap Connect.
- Move the sticks and confirm live packet and channel activity, then calibrate throttle, yaw, pitch, and roll.
Home Wi-Fi: best for online multiplayer
This takes a one-time radio Wi-Fi setup. Afterward, the radio and phone use the same home network, so the phone can keep its internet connection for online play. If the network blocks devices from talking to each other, use a network that allows local device connections.
- On the radio, open ExpressLRS Lua → WiFi Connectivity → Enable WiFi. Join its ExpressLRS TX network from the phone.
- While connected to the radio, open http://10.0.0.1 in a browser. In its Wi-Fi or Join Network settings, enter your home network name and password, then save.
- Stop Wi-Fi mode and power-cycle the radio. Reopen the Lua script and choose WiFi Connectivity → Enable WiFi; it should join the saved home network.
- Reconnect the phone to that same home network. In the Killzone FPV app, select Home Wi-Fi and connect using elrs_tx.local. If that name does not resolve, enter the radio's local IP address.
- Confirm live packets and channels, then calibrate all four flight controls before joining multiplayer.
Check all four controls before takeoff
When the app shows a live controller connection, move throttle, yaw, pitch, and roll through their ranges. Follow the in-game calibration prompts and check that each on-screen control moves in the expected direction. If a channel is missing or reversed, fix the mapping before flying.
ELRS 4.x is not required just for Wi-Fi Joystick. If your radio and receivers are on 3.x, use a supported 3.4+ build within that major version instead of updating the transmitter alone to 4.x. A transmitter-only major-version change can stop it linking to existing receivers. Read the detailed firmware guide before changing radio firmware.
Common questions
Do I need ExpressLRS 4.1?
No. Wi-Fi Joystick was introduced in ExpressLRS 3.4.0. Your transmitter must be a supported Wi-Fi-capable target; 4.x is optional, and a version number alone does not prove compatibility.
Can I play multiplayer on the radio's Wi-Fi network?
Do not count on it. Direct Radio Wi-Fi can leave your phone without internet. Home Wi-Fi, with the radio and phone on the same network, is the recommended setup for online multiplayer.
Can I fly with Safari or touch controls instead of the iOS app?
Safari may not expose an FPV radio as a controller, and mobile touch flight is not supported. Use the Killzone FPV iOS app with a compatible Apple Game Controller or supported ExpressLRS Wi-Fi Joystick radio.
